Pros

Great clients and workplace within walking distance

Cons

Bad benefits, stressful deadlines, not enough developers, unreasonable deadlines, tasks are billed on hours so founders expect you to finish tasks in as few hours as possible because if you use more hours to complete tasks they don’t profit as much from you, no unit testing, not enough QA - actually no QA engineers because founders don’t want to spend money which puts the burden on developers, devs feel like you are competing with each other rather than collaborating, toxic culture as after a couple of months you dread going to work because of how the founders treat you.

Pros

Overall, the staff I worked with on a regular basis were great colleagues. Blue Raster's strength is its employees. Diversity in staff seems to be getting better and better - that's something I really loved seeing. I was happy with my salary and benefits - medical insurance is fully paid by the company and even though it's high deductible, the deductible is the lowest I have seen for this type of insurance. Management supports good work/life balance. PTO is pretty generous. I did find leadership a bit micromanaging but understand that for the two founders, this company is their baby. I think it's expected at smaller companies like this one, but maybe put more trust in your middle managers and make your own life easier? Also, a pat on the back for good work would go a LONG way. And maybe a smile. Getting back to the day-to-day, I can honestly say it's the people that made this job really enjoyable. My position was a new one and they were all very supportive and helpful. I was being schooled in the capture and BD part of my job, which I appreciated.

Cons

I found leadership to be a bit intimidating but got used to it after repeated exposure (lol). Comments on performance were generally about what was wrong rather than also recognizing good work. My performance was in question so I get not wanting to invest in any sort of professional development for me, but it's something I really value so it was disappointing that I didn't get that kind of support overall. They don't offer tuition reimbursement like many companies do.
