Pros

Nice location near Deep Ellum, sometimes there was La Croix

Cons

If you are motivated by vicious comments about your work, overhearing screaming matches between management and clients, or a huge lack of direction and organization, Black Book Ink is the place for you. The excuse "this is just how the business works" was often used to justify employees staying until 10 or 11pm, but the reality was that constructive criticism was just not there, causing a runaround among the whole agency. Many times, creative direction was given via Skype calls from management that was out of the city and state. That made things pretty difficult for visual learners. Other than being required to arrive at the office for an 8am staff meeting on Mondays, which happened 2% of the time, there were no internal meetings in place to discuss projects/clients/campaigns, etc. Should you choose to work here, you will quickly learn how to play guessing games when it comes to delivering final products. Biggest regret: not seeking counseling during employment. This job was more than stressful; it was emotionally abusive.

We hate to see this review of our small agency. As our team, who has been here for some time will attest, they receive the art direction they need to complete their work, and do a fantastic job. Our clients are happy with the creative and thanks to our account team being organized and keeping it all moving, we are rarely here late. We don’t live in meetings, we arrive early on Mondays by an hour to get a jumpstart on the week - who wants to live in meetings for the sake of meetings? In regards to videos calls - it’s all about communication and they are a great tool to screen share and collaborate. There have been a few reviews that have been posted by a seemlingly very unhappy person and it has been going on for months. Unfortunately there is not a lot the company can do to prevent this - however our clients, our team and our work speaks for itself.

Pros

I have just completed my first year with Black Book Ink. This is my first job with an agency and I cannot even begin to express the depth of knowledge and experience I have gained. Black Book Ink is a company that is, in fact, fast-paced, but there is supportive and knowledgeable leadership that helps make everything possible. Within my first year of being with the company, I have honed in on my strengths and developed my weaknesses into goals for improvement. Anytime I ever have any questions on how to best handle a task, I always have the support and advice of an awesome team. The leadership team at BBI not only cares about producing great work but also developing its employees. The hours are very reasonable. The team will occasionally stay late to work on a project, but this is not habitual and is the nature of the business. If you want a career in this industry, then expect that staying late or coming early will happen from time to time. I am looking forward to being a part of the continuing growth here at Black Book Ink.

Cons

I do not have any outstanding cons - the only negative experience would be former employees who didn't quite understand the business and understand that hard work and determination lead to success. Some people just wanted results handed to them rather than putting in the work, but our present team is strong and each member carries their weight. I only see positive progression for us at BBI.
