Pros

Smaller creative environment with very friendly staff members If interested in an unpaid internship role, Black Book Ink is very accommodating with school schedules and willing to work with you to ensure you are able to balance work life with your school life.

Cons

Unfortunately, Black Book Ink has proven to be disorganized and their company lacks a solid direction in both creative work and new business pursuits as well as a lack of professionalism amongst management roles. If pursuing a full time position, the typical work week hours consist of 8am to 6pm on Mondays and 9am to 6pm the rest of week. However, due to the work load and very few members of the BBI team, as little as 7 usually (the amount of employees fluctuates very often as BBI has a very high employee turn over rate) it is best to expect to be working 50+ hours per week without proper compensation. It is good to be aware that Black Book Ink does not provide benefits to full time employees. Management has spoken very poorly to and about their employees multiple times. There is a significant difference between constructive criticism and plain insults. That being said, it is very important to note that there is a lack of constructive criticism from management regarding their employees work as well as performance.

Black Book Ink Response

While there are some gross exaggerations in this review, it is understood that with growth comes internal challenges. Awarding former interns turned graduates an opportunity to join full time, in entry level positions certainly comes with its challenges -for both the young creative and agency. It's important to note, the company’s client retention percentage and endorsements from years of happy clients is telling. In addition, there are wonderful strong creatives that are very happy, some even starting as interns and returning semesters later after graduation. As well as returning employees who left to pursue other opportunities and later returned. While working for a small firm may not be for everyone - this agency wishes all that pass through great success on their personal journey.

Pros

I have just completed my first year with Black Book Ink. This is my first job with an agency and I cannot even begin to express the depth of knowledge and experience I have gained. Black Book Ink is a company that is, in fact, fast-paced, but there is supportive and knowledgeable leadership that helps make everything possible. Within my first year of being with the company, I have honed in on my strengths and developed my weaknesses into goals for improvement. Anytime I ever have any questions on how to best handle a task, I always have the support and advice of an awesome team. The leadership team at BBI not only cares about producing great work but also developing its employees. The hours are very reasonable. The team will occasionally stay late to work on a project, but this is not habitual and is the nature of the business. If you want a career in this industry, then expect that staying late or coming early will happen from time to time. I am looking forward to being a part of the continuing growth here at Black Book Ink.

Cons

I do not have any outstanding cons - the only negative experience would be former employees who didn't quite understand the business and understand that hard work and determination lead to success. Some people just wanted results handed to them rather than putting in the work, but our present team is strong and each member carries their weight. I only see positive progression for us at BBI.
