Pros

- Generally, Bio search is a great place to work, staff are very welcoming and friendly (this is mentioned a lot by staff) and there is a great social culture, social events are organised quarterly, teams organise meals out occasionally and there is a summer bbq and a paid Christmas party. Previous Christmas parties have included a paid 4 course meal and drinks in a 5* hotel. - traditional techniques are the main methods used by the microbiology labs, as these are the most effective - if you have just finished uni with a science degree, Bio search is a great place to start your career, offering UKAS accredited testing, there is always plenty to learn. If you are fully trained, are a hard worker and want to progress in this field, there is plenty of opportunities for career progression, hard work will always pay off and is very much valued. Be open with management that you want to progress. - yearly appraisals have been introduced to help develop individuals -management operate a complete open door policy, staff are always reminded they can talk to their line managers about anything - weekly meetings with the teams are held to communicate important information, staff are very much encouraged to raise any issues in these meetings or to share ideas for improvements -QR code so staff can anonymously submit continuous improvement ideas - annual leave accrues with each year of service up to a maximum of 5 years -opportunities to train in fire safety, first aid, water safety courses etc - Staff are thanked for their hard work in different ways, including pizza days, lunch out, paid drinks at social events, summer bbq or a bbq box, paid Christmas party, Christmas bonus, monthly and weekly meetings are also held where staff are recognised for their efforts. -pay progression once fully trained and for extra responsibilities - location is good, 20 minute walk from city centre and free onsite parking - perkbox rewards - the food lab particularly is a fantastic team who are all great team players and work hard to achieve team goals, a great atmosphere to work in - there are some great managers in the management team who work very hard and some below negative comments are unfair to categorise them all the same

Cons

The company has been rapidly growing and going through its biggest growth phase although this is a good thing for the company this can obviously be challenging for all staff, important to monitor and adapt to this growth although there are many limiting factors which slow the progress of these adaptations Staff have to focus on too much at once, more investment needed to allow staff more time to correctly and accurately carry out their roles The business has been rapidly outgrowing the size of the building and it is becoming run down, new building needed within the next year

Pros

The majority of staff are great to work with, very helpful and supportive of each other. The lab itself is good for anyone who wants to get into a lab without any previous experience or just out of uni. Free car parking also. The shifts are fair but might not suit everyone.

Cons

Management tend to care more about profits over staff. The same issues can be raised to higher management numerous times but never are resolved as they all protect each other. They turn a blind eye to the amount of samples taken in and how much can actually be handled in the small space that there is to work in. Management also are very quick to blame or jump to assumptions without asking. No christmas/annual bonus given.

Pros

Besides the teammates you will have are nice, there are no pros to working here

Cons

Where to start. The pay is absolutely atrocious, and the highest management is well aware it is abysmally low, and that will not change. Pay at all levels is atrocious with supervisors for a long time being paid less than 30k. The company has gotten significantly busier year on year, yet pay barely moves and the compan has removed staff bonuses. The main issue with the place, and this trickles down and causes all the negatives of the place, is that the people running it DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, and see you as nothing but a number and a resource, a resource that they will happily push to it's limit and break, and if you break and leave, they will simply replace you with a new underpaid worker. It must be said that the lab managers and anyone under or around their level are lovely, and our in serious work to their own detriment to help you, but those at the top, specifically Eurofins/Biosearches top man and right hand woman, run an extremely terrible business with a predatory outlook on all of their staff. The staff turnover rate is unbelievably high for this reason, particularly water lab. The team rarely has many fully trained people, as attitude from the top 2 drives people away from this place. The lab exists constantly in a state of disarray, with the workload constantly being too much for the existing team, meaning corners need to constantly be cut to ensure the workload gets finished. These corners are typically cut in training, as staff members training routinely gets delayed by months, or broken up and postponed DAYS into training that would take several weeks, simply because the top 2 have once again negotiated more work for the lab, despite knowing it will push the workers into uncomfortable territory and long overtime. Let's talk overtime, this company DEPENDS on it. A company that cannot function without daily overtime shpuld not run full stop. You will do overtime everyday, even the managers who truly care about you will work overtime and not even get paid for it. You will work overtime day after day, working in a tiny lab that is cramped, using equipment that frequently breaks or jams. On to the labs. They make the busiest lab by a long shot work in a tiny lab, whilst a lab that has regular moments of no work, is in a lab over twice the size, yet they refuse to switch. Switching would increase their capacity, meaning the increased work they wish to take on would be feasible and comfortable, but they do not care about your comfort. Overall this place is horrific. The people you will meet are amazing, but do not put yourself through a place that pays you pennies, demands the world of you, waves rules in your face yet breaks them themselves, and is genuinley constantly out to get you.
