Pros

Employees have a lot of independence to make meaningful changes to the business. The company culture is very friendly and supportive. Politics are at a minimal. The company is large, but the culture is that of a much smaller company. The growth trajectory makes an very excitingand dynamic time to work at Overstock.com.

Cons

Employees with key responsibilities that affect company performance are rarely measured on their actual contribution to the bottom line. The matrix organization allows for multiple hands in each cookie jar, but not every hand is accountable for the best outcome, which makes decision making and execution difficult. Certain processes such as pricing and compensation have a bias towards mediocrity. Outperformers are not appropriately rewarded and sometimes discouraged to meet the norm. Employees tasked with administrative responsibilities are often unmotivated.

Pros

Coworkers are my main reason for coming back daily, I'd hate to let them down.

Cons

Toxic ceo is more focused on being confrontational than productive. The consensus in his town hall meetings is to 'keep your head down, avoid direct eye contact, do not ask questions'. He's focusing on building the upper management team while regular layoffs of people who actually do the heavy lifting is reducing our actual output.
