Pros

BetterUp is a company with an incredible mission. Coaching truly is transformative and changes peoples lives for the better. The benefits, pay, and “extras” like a learning stipend, fitness reimbursement, incredible parental leave are all huge pro’s of the organization. You get to work with amazing BetterUp coaches (who will be your saving grace!). Unlimited PTO- though you will most likely to still be answering client emails and handling all fires even when you are “OOO”. BetterUp has hired some of the most incredible, interesting, compassionate and intelligent people I've ever met in my life! You will be working with the best of the best in sales people.

Cons

Many reviews have stated this, but the company does not “walk the walk”. Those who ask questions or challenge the status quo end up leaving or being let go. Decisions are made in a way that is truly unclear, and when asking for clarification from higher ups you do not get answers. Multiple individuals were demoted with pay-cuts through company re-orgs with almost no explanation for why this decision was made. The AE quotas are unattainable and frankly seem like irresponsible projections based on how far behind this company is from operational excellence and how there is no consistent sales strategy for their products. Sales people please beware, it seems like a dream company, however the majority of the sales workforce feel constantly gas-lit, burned out, and frankly unhappy. Additionally my sales friends, you could hit your numbers and still be let go due to “performance” by not living a “high impact behavior”- this happened to more than three of my close colleagues. Most of the sales leadership you are reporting to are inexperienced as leaders, good people, but they are hiring “order takers” and “yes” people when it comes to management, not leaders who protect their people. The company is held together by duct tape and I have been shocked at the contractual messes and misinformation that's needed to be cleaned up since joining BetterUp due to lack of managerial oversight and minimal checks and balances throughout our process.

Pros

Nearly 8 years in, and the work still pulls me forward. What keeps me at BetterUp is that the problems are genuinely hard and genuinely worth solving. I came from engineering, so I'm wired to care about infrastructure, not just features, and this is one of the rare places where you can build something foundational and actually see it move metrics, clear escalations, and unblock a whole go-to-market motion. The mission isn't decorative here. I can feel the thread between the work and the outcome. BetterUp also trusts you to figure things out across lanes. I've written SQL, prototyped with AI tools, facilitated workshops, and co-designed vendor strategy, all as a PM, because the culture doesn't penalize curiosity or reaching into adjacent territory. And honestly, some of my closest friendships came out of this place. The people I work with, on engineering, on cross-functional teams, and in peer mentorship, are people I genuinely learn from and, in some cases, people I can't imagine not having in my life. That combination of meaningful infrastructure work, real trust, and people who challenge you and become your people is not easy to find. The benefits span beyond general work-life-balance, if you're curious about something, there's always an open door to learn and contribute. As a woman in tech, I cherish the fact that our colleagues listen to women, and our insight is taken into account instead of just ignored. It's nice to feel safe at work, able to speak your mind freely.

Cons

If you want a boring job, this is not the place for you.
