Pros
If you're a student, the work program is a great way to get experience and get paid at the same time. The people you work with are generally around your age (aside from supervisors) and it can be a great introduction to a professional work environment. You can also move up the ladder somewhat rapidly and if you don't jive with a job, it's easy to change to another one and there are people to assist you.
Cons
Low pay. If people other than students were taking these jobs, they would be paid more than just a few cents above the minimum wage. Also, your job freshman year is likely to be something less glamorous than they advertise, like working on the grounds or housekeeping.
