      Pros

      Biggest plus is the people who work at the library are overall really nice folks. The library is also a beautiful environment to work in, a gorgeous space with an open feeling. Also a good rate of pay for part time.

      Cons

      Not exactly a con, but, this can be difficult at times... You must be ready to interact regularly with homeless folks and some people with mental challenges. Despite the issues that can come with this, i feel it is important that there is a warm dry place for them to go. But it can be occasionally unpleasant. There is good security though, in case of any issues.

      Pros

      Berkeley Public Library offers a chance to work with driven and motivated directors at each of the five branches. Most everyone there is very proactive, making sure designers know just what to deliver every step of the way. At Berkeley Public Library creative freedom is valued, and a lot of trust is put into my hands with respect to the final design. There is a panoply of design projects proffered on a month to month basis. I can honestly say I have always enjoyed working with the Berkeley Public Library system.

      Cons

      All employees and directors work very hard and wear many hats. It can take some time to get in touch with the right person to address your question or to get feedback on a current project. I do not consider this to be problematic, although I can imagine designers who need hourly feedback or lots of supervision may feel lost.

      Funding is more secure than many public libraries.

      Cons

      Staff is very cliquey, borders on bullying.
