Pros

BeneStream has been an awesome job experience so far. The fact that we are a start-up always keeps things fast-paced and interesting, and every day bring something new. Our management is a unique group of very smart, talented people with diverse backgrounds that have set a great tone. I especially appreciate the company's focus on our mission of helping uninsured people access health insurance through Medicaid, even though we have a for-profit business model.

Cons

As a start-up, we have our fair share of challenges, including role definition and communication between departments. But I think the focus on mission and keeping that the centerpiece of our efforts creates great energy and drive among employees.

Pros

Excellent opportunity for a Business Major to get his/her hands dirty in a start up environment and really have a hand in multiple business units as a company grows. The work life balance is exceptional, and management has a very hands off approach to letting employees manage their own time and projects. Everything can be an adventure since there are no strict standards set in place or preconceived notions of how things should be done. Employees have a lot of creative liberty and freedom and your success is in your own hands for the most part. The company is constantly evolving and there are new needs that must be met on a regular basis because of those changes. Definitely putting my degree/previous management skills to work in multiple capacities.

Cons

It's a start up, so of course there are no established rules or standard operating procedures. It's a flat org hierarchy which is DEFINITELY not for everyone. There is also quite a bit of role ambiguity since the company is so new. All of the issues I have faced are a result of growing pains which are inevitable to a certain extent as companies grow to scale. The company is by no means perfect but I don't think they pretend that they are.
