Pros

Clean climate controlled manufacturing facility.

Cons

Engineering used as a production process and has direct involvement with the production control process with inflexible time limits for completion that don’t allow for customer nonstandard specifications. Machine design and problem solving are lesser valued skills. Honoring request from production for improvements or corrections are met with penalties for the engineer. Management expects perfection in all efforts and offers assistance but often passes responsibility to a subordinate. Poor training in company product and design documentation. Terrible work-life balance for salaried employees, the work climate is the business is most important and the employee is expected to place the company above everything/everyone. Management claims to be concerned about the welfare of the employee but is only concerned with their bottom line.

Pros

Mostly great people to work with, Everyone usually is willing to help new people out. Lots to learn, always room to grow and learn more. Fairly relaxed environment most of the time. Pretty good benefits. Overtime is usually available. Pretty good starting pay with no experience. If you need to leave or come in late for any reason, usually your PM will be understanding and let you do so.

Cons

Certain management feels the need to breathe down your neck at times. Certain management/senior people are sticklers and wont use "time of judgement" to deal with circumstances. Company always looks for reasons not to give you a better raise or bonus rather than just giving credit where credit is due. Annual review is total BS and is setup to never let anyone really shine or show who is really a great employee, as its based on a 1-5 scale and plant managers are instructed to never give out 5s and 4s are highly unlikely and the average across the facility needs to be a 3 so PMs are forced to pick and choose who can be rated highly and who has to be forced down to a lower grade to meet the average of 3... Engineering in house is a joke, great people and hard workers but they are so bogged down with red tape on everything that it takes them forever to get anything done. Certain management always comment on how computers aren't needed and shouldn't be on production floors, yet the company pushes as a whole to get everything online, including blueprints, training and company updates. Safety is pushed so hard that people just get tired of hearing it so they ignore a lot of it. The "educated" people are put on a different pedestal than the rest of the company even though the "educated people don't know the everyday operation of how things go and want to force the mechanics/electricians to follow the book they learned from even though the book rarely accounts for real life. President, executive and senior management live in a fantasy world where laborers need nothing and just complain about everything so they're to be ignored and tossed a bone once in a while to keep them quiet. Bonuses and raises are based on the deeply flawed review system so that everyone gets as minimal bonus and raise as possible but tells everyone its a great system because you can calculate your approximate raise and bonus anytime you want based on how well you think you did on the review.
