Pros
Commissioned sales for some areas/pay-for-performance for others, ability for motivated salespeople to grow within the company, flexible schedule, corporate asks...and listens
Cons
Constant couponing brings in bargain-hunting customers, reducing items the moment they arrive is misleading to customers since they were never sold at the reg price, expected retail hours (to include nights and weekends) are extended to closing at 10pm on Friday and Saturday and 11am to 7pm on Sunday, Black Friday retail hours have crept into the Thanksgiving holiday hours for many retailers (we are scheduled to be at work at 5:30pm this year 2014) - and Belk feels it must continually keep up with Macy's hours in order to stay competitive, the store feels like a fleamarket or rummage sale at times with all the massed-out bargains and deals, work schedules are typically posted within days of the scheduled week begin date, customer reward certificates penalize the associates when redeemed by reducing their sales/commission.
