Pros

Wonderful coworkers, wonderful clientele, wonderful management and support staff. Great place to work if loyalty and a strong work ethic are also your values.

Cons

Some people start working here and seem surprised that they actually have to do work. This is not the place to be if you want to minimally work but get paid like you worked full time. So, not really a con on the business because it is normal for businesses to expect people to work.

Pros

Great Coworkers; wonderful clients; supportive department heads; great experience work on teams and for IN waiver services

Cons

CEO lacks empathy and care for employees and bullies staff into compliance; emails threatening public humiliation for minor infarctions; lots of work you don’t get paid for because it’s “part of the job”; lack of respect for every department; fear of retaliation for reporting anything - including HIPAA violations and reports to CPS/APS; one HR staff who is CEO’s best friend; technology that barely works and IT staff that is condescending and intimidating; lack of benefits unless you’ve been there 5+ years; emphasis on making money over client care; CEO does not ask for approval or opinions from anyone before making big decisions that negatively impact other departments

We offer a very robust benefits package to all our employees. I’m not sure what the reviewer means by benefits only at 5+ years. That’s simply not true. Everyone has the same benefits package from the start. We offer health insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, mileage reimbursement, education assistance, biannual and monthly bonus opportunities, partially-company paid AFLAC, 401k matched up to 10% (starts at 4% and does increase with tenure) and profit sharing. Sadly, we have had some awesome staff leave this year. Of those who left voluntarily, most did not necessarily leave out of job dissatisfaction but left due to other life circumstances such as moving out of state for a partner’s job, personal health reasons, working with family and opting to stay home with children. We are always sad to lose staff members but sometimes there are circumstances outside our control that lead to those exits and we wish them all well. Of the 46 staff members employed as of 9/11/24 we have 11 with 10+ years of tenure and 13 with 5+ years of tenure – half of our staff have been here MORE than 5 years which is fantastic! We are mandatory reporters for abuse, neglect and exploitation. There would never be and has never been “retaliation for reporting violations.” Every reportable incident is sent to APS if it involves an adult which exceeds the state requirements. Every alleged incident involving abuse, neglect or exploitation of a child is 100% reported to CPS. These reports are done out of great care and concern for the individuals we serve and BST staff are well trained and have a strong policy and procedure in place to file these reports. There are more aspects to successfully running a company than most employees can even imagine and a lot happens behind the scenes. This is true of every company. BST holds monthly manager meetings where all departments are present to discuss updates, challenges, new regulatory issues, etc. These manager meetings address any employee barriers/concerns in more detail than a board of directors, whose main purpose is to govern the organization by establishing broad policies and setting out strategic objectives, would.
