Pros

- Employees are given significant responsibility - Young, passionate, and talented, co-workers - Not adverse to risks in the pursuit of developing atypical games

Cons

I’ve seen a great deal of talent churn at Beamdog because the studio is ultimately treated best as stepping stone in your career trajectory. There is significant responsibility and learning potential available at the studio, but they take advantage of your passion, don’t pay well, or promote often. Beamdog’s management attempts to create an employee centric environment, but they are actually fairly corporate and their actions are inconsistent with their outward communication. I’ve found the studio to struggle with workplace transparency. Employees do not have the ability to refute potentially unfair anonymous feedback that affects job performance. Their management have low visibility into their teams and choose to focus on attending a ridiculous amount of meetings instead providing support and enabling the employees under them. Most managers, believe me, employees talk, do not seek feedback and nearly ALL of the department heads and leadership are unaware that they are disliked. In a world where most industry work can done online, Beamdog struggles to stand out as a place to work. If you have options, I’d suggest you look elsewhere.

Pros

Seemed like really passionate, very welcoming people.

Cons

I was brought on as contract QA tester for their IE games. In the span of a few months we went from having 15-20 minute QA meetings once a week, with updates about company plans, down to 5 minutes a month. Myself and most of the people brought on from the modding community were ghosted for like a year about whether we would have a future. Like they didn't tell us anything but kept our access to internal chats. We were increasingly treated like we couldn't be trusted (despite having worked on much more high profile projects like Siege of Dragonspear). and the QA manager at that time never was open with us. Also the pay sucked. It was basically just barely better than minimum wage. Also I was excluded on the credits for Axis and Allies (not even a special thanks) despite working on it.
