Pros

Great group of people to work with. Exciting projects. Lots of things to learn.

Cons

Due to the recent shake-up - there is lots of doom and gloom. People are frustrated and overworked and it seems that management doesn't particularly care. We get a monthly pep talk about how we are doing great and "keep it up". Managers seem to spend 95% of their time in meetings - so there is no time to talk to the staff. It is also blatantly evident that they are clearing out older employees, and replacing them with younger folks. While that is actually quite illegal, it is exactly what is happening. All the "favorites" seem to be able to come and go as they please, and do as little as possible while in the office. Rather than a business office, it often appears and sounds like a sorority or frat house. Professionalism clearly is out - "work-life" balance is in.

Pros

They pay my salary on time.

Cons

-They are run like grad school. They have you compete against your co-workers for funding, they consider rules and laws as simple impediments to be overcome by capricious edicts, they will treat you like a rented mule if you let them. I have come to the conclusion that senior management cares very little about work conditions or employees, only about the bottom line. This experience has significantly changed my opinion of not-for-profit companies. If you are a researcher looking for an open and collaborative environment with shared goals, I suggest you look elsewhere.
