Pros

Even though I rated the company at 2 stars there are some Pros to working with Barton. One of them being they have a strong desire to hire from within giving you opportunities to grow into a management position quickly. There is money to be made, but unless you want to work 60+ hours per week to make it happen it's going to be a long road for you. Another pro is the people, not the managers or executives, the employees that are in the trenches alongside you are great. A young crowd who likes to have fun and work hard, a standard sales floor. But don't get too excited about reading that as it is not the "new age" sales floor and office you are used to hearing about. You get to learn a whole new industry with having no previous experience. They offer the chance for people to come in and learn something new while being given the opportunity to make money. The only reason I remained at Barton is because of the people, and also the money. I got lucky when I started there.. I made a few assignments and started making good money early on which put me in the spotlight with upper management.

Cons

Culture, empathy, work life balance these are all things that are nonexistent at Barton. If you think you are going to a business where you are going to be respected as an employee and not treated like a number on a piece of paper. STAY AWAY. You work 7-5 every day no exceptions. what are we in High school??? I get it, Barton is filled with people (on average) between the ages of 22-26 who are fresh out of college and looking for their first job. IF YOU HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE AND HALF A BRAIN STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. You can easily get an entry level sales job at a company who actually appreciates you. Fun fact.. you do not need a college degree to work at Barton, probably why they have such a bad rep in the medical community because they continually hire people who cannot complete full sentences but take orders well. When it comes to time off, Oh you want Black Friday off?? yea take PTO.. oh you want Christmas eve off?? yea take PTO... oh you want new years eve off?? yea take PTO.. The same goes for pretty much all other "mid tier" national holidays. But let's not forget the generous 1 flex day they give you so you have to pick which "extra day" you can have off. On top of all this you only received 12 days of PTO which you have to accrue on each pay period, so a quick break down would mean you would only earn 10 hours per month to put towards PTO. I felt uncomfortable every time I took PTO at Barton, like my manager or my director was judging me.. especially if I had a bad month and that was after 4 years at a company. Oh also you do not get sick time.. if you are sick you have to take PTO or unpaid PTO so just do yourself a favor and don't get sick or injured because Barton doesn't have time for that. If you are going to come into the company and do something A.) be an account manager, this company is an account manager company, if you look at the sales leaders in total out of the top 20 at least 15 of them if not more are account managers. B.) join the CSG department of recruiting. All of the other departments (primary care, psychiatry, dentistry) are dying and Barton is being boxed out by its competition (I have worked in two of those dying specialties). If they offer you anything other than CSG recruiter or Account manager walk away and keep interviewing. In my office specifically there was this crazy thing where they played favorites. If you were in CSG you sat on a glorious throne above everyone else. So as some of the other reviews said on here.. get on the good side of management early.. and keep on their good side. Once you get tenure here do not expect to be helped in any way shape or form. I will be the first to admit that I struggled at the end of 2019 and early 2020, I was not approached or asked about anything from my upper management during this time, no reviews, no advice on how to get out of my slump, nothing other than a performance review. I even hit a 3 million dollar career sales milestone and was not even congratulated, to add insult to injury he congratulated one of the management's "favorites" as we were standing next to each other 2 weeks later on hitting the same milestone. I was demoted by this individual, who offered no help to me while he knew I was struggling after entering a new specialty. During my demotion meeting he told me that he was demoting me so that he could sit in my seat and help one of the other managers because she was "slipping a little bit." Riddle me that! In closing this is a very old school mentality company.. You come to work, put in long days and lots of hours and hope that you strike gold. They would rather hire 20 people to identify the 2 people who are good and fire the other 18, rather than taking time to screen candidates and offer a competitive package to attract good talent into the company. Again if you get in here and do well there are a lot of great benefits.. But the grind does not stop. You will be cold calling until the day you die at Barton Associates, and they will tell you that wont happen.. But it will and it does!

Pros

The bonds you make with your coworkers

Cons

Pretty much everything els. The bonds you make come from the office trauma you experience here. Upper management has no idea what they’re doing and constantly change focuses. They’re throwing spaghetti at a wall to see what sticks and it’s very poorly thought out so nothing does. The company has a very bad reputation and they’re not doing much to turn that around not the right way anyway. As soon as we replaced the ceo the company literally started to plummet. Top salesmen left. They fired half of the account managers which disrupted everything. People couldn’t handle the influx of clients and they went from 400 listings to 50. This is not a good place to start a career or grow. It used to be and they’re trying to re brand but they need someone to step in to get things going. It’s very sad. You will never be anything but a number here which ofcourse is part of a sales job but this is different. It’s a sad hollow black hole that will suck the motivation drive and happiness out of you. I did pretty good there myself but this is genuinely a bad place to work
