Pros

This is going to be very team specific, but my team was great to work with. Some of the other groups we worked with were bad, but I was lucky that for the last 3-4 years, I worked with great teammates.

Cons

Way behind the times in terms of technology and leadership and talent. Because they have a certain type of people they want to hire. Someone who looks like them, thinks like them, acts like them. If you have an idea or if you have something that goes against the conventional wisdom, you will be marked and your career will end. So just drink the kool aid and do as you are told. Don’t question the judgment of senior leadership, don't rock the boat and just pretend this place is world class. Politics to no end. Know that you will need to kiss the rings of the right people. Failure to do so will mark you and your career will end. Just kiss any and all rings that come your way. Don’t come up with a better way to do things because it will prove that those before you were inept or were not able to do what you proposed. This will upset the wrong people and they will mark you and your career will end. Keep saying that the way things are done are better than they are done anywhere else, and you will be fine. Don’t tell them this is how you did it at your previous world class employer. Because it will also imply that you think your former employer is better than them. They have fragile egos and they will mark you and your career will end. Tell them that you are amazed at how cutting edge this place is and you will survive. In most places, differences of opinions are encouraged so that you can get a diversity of thought and ideas. Not here. Disagreeing with the wrong people will mark you and your career will end. If they say the sun rises in the West, you shut your mouth, smile, nod your head and go on with your day. D&I issues are solved by hiring a D&I officer. Thinking is that this absolves senior leadership from their responsibilities. In reality, the place is an old white boys club. All of the chief decision makers are white men. The people who have been around the longest and survived the numerous rounds of layoffs are white men. All the senior portfolio managers are, you guessed it, white men. If you are a person of color, RUN FAR AWAY. If you get an interview and get hired, this is a big if because chances are the people interviewing you will be white men who will not want to hire you. But assume you get interviewed and hired, you will NEVER progress in this company. You will never be given the responsibility that you earn because, well it's an old boys club. Look at their senior leadership - 95% are white and 90% are white men. Don’t take my word for it, count it yourself. Southern white man club is the rule.

Pros

Benefit (non monetary) package, and community service culture is great. My direct manager is great, and hers above me would be great if he actually knew what his dept staff did.

Cons

Constant push for change but when change is suggested or implemented, it takes years to complete if it isn’t the type of change C-suite or legacy employees (20+ years there) like. Pushed to implement AI, but requests for a security review take 9-12 months with no updates, by then the request use case has been resolved or worked around. Starting pay is fantastic, but leave after a year because it will never get better, especially on the operational side of the business.
