Pros

Working with other people in the modeling business gives you some (although not very good) connections. Gives you teaching experience with young adults. The kids you teach are so receptive and its wonderful to see the shy ones come out of their shell, and the others hone their talents.

Cons

During the job interview they make you learn the whole curriculum you will teach in 6 months in just 2 days. And the first day they don't even pay you for! And you are there both days for 9 hours each. Often your asked to go to a different hotel to teach or attend a casting and you are never reimbursed for the travel you do to places other than your original teaching location. They also have a knack for picking the hotels surrounded by construction. You are not given nearly enough time to put all of the information they want to you teach into 4 hours. So the students are really getting ripped off and not learing what their money is paying for. The boss exepects you to push promotions for the company the the students who are young I might add, but hide it behind their speech of how they want you to save money. There are a lot of things your not allowed to say to the students that would actualy be helpful for them to know. The boss wants to be too involved in your life, mine would call me over and over and would repeatedly tell me that he was disappointed that I didn't confide in him more. He wanted me to send him weekly emails telling how my life was going and hopes and dreams and stuff. I understand wanting to know you workers so you can better help you and them but I was being made very very uncomfortable. Your boss doesn't understand that you may have a shy girl and just having her talk openly to others is a great improvement. The boss would come in and expect you to have the shyest kid turned into a hollering concert goers. They will promise you the highest pay (which for me was 16 an hour) then right before your classes start ask you to be an assistant and knock your pay down to 10. They will call you last minute and expect you to pick up a 6 month teaching contract starting 2 days from then and be very offended when you already have something planned a few months ahead. During one of your classes they will come in and talk to your kids about how they will give them 50$ for each person that they bring in to the Barbizon program. I have had experience in the modeling and acting world and only half of their information they are giving their girls is accurate. They say they will put the girls in "barbizon placement" after the school but that is only just sending out some cattle call emails from time to time. I found it strange that they would offer a new employee only 2 classes in to her job who is also 22 a job on the "Passport to Discovery Cruise" to be an Supervisor to a cabin of girls who are only 2 years younger than I am. And the only compensation was the crusise was free. No pay.

Pros

Benefits are very good and there is plenty of room for growth if you show dedication and reliability. When I first came to Barbizon, I had no idea what I wanted to do professionally. I was excited for the opportunity and worked hard from the start. I began as an appointment setter, quickly moved into front desk and administrative responsibilities, and in less than three years became the manager of the booking team. Not only myself, but all employees and executives strive to create an environment built on teamwork, encouragement, and support. I have learned so much from every person I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside.

Cons

There are not any I can think of at this time. The company actually listens to all their employees and if/when issues arise, they are promptly handled.
