Guests were for the most part awesome.

When Bar W purchased Whitefish outfitters the culture changed. It was no longer fun. The owners never made any attempt to compensate the guides for an additional 50 minutes per day due to longer travel distances required based on the new location. 3 senior guides lecture to a mandatory tip sharing scheme to boost underpaid non customer facing staff. So your tip becomes everybody’s. Very unfair for this industry. Lastly, after 6 years with WFO it was worth it to walk away from this company who could care less about their employees.

-Owners do not have any equine husbandry, ranching, or guest ranch experience and are not very willing to learn or adjust their business plans for better animal husbandry. -Often horses would be rationed on hay because the management ran low, leaving older horses or shy horses run off feeders with no pasture to graze on -Minimum horse care standards were often not even met. Injuries untreated, thin/ribby horses overworked and underfed, feet going untrimmed. -Managers did not either want to do their jobs or were incapable of doing their jobs -Upper management continued to deliver empty promises and platitudes -Staff housing was overcrowded -Trail system is relatively limited and guests will regularly ride the same trail multiple times during week -Hard working and quality staff will get taken advantage of
