Pros

The Bank of Greece is definitely the best employer in Greece. First of all it offers considerable professional security, especially in the crisis conditions of Greece. Work only rarely becomes high-volume, high-pressure. According to one's position and qualifications there are some opportunities for short term stints at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt. Knowledge-wise it gives you the opportunity to (slowly) get acquainted with how the monetary and banking systems work. Overall there is a family feeling everywhere. The Bank offers adequate days of leave and extra days for parents. Most facilities offer low price food and snacks. The Bank has its own pension fund, one of the few still not merged with the state Pension fund (EOPPY-IKA). Because it’s an economically stable fund it provides quite generous pensions. There is also free medical care with internal bank doctors (!) They also provide free of charge the best pre-school facility in Greece and an equally high quality children summer camp. There is also an employee super-market and if you are a parent the Bank gifts you with credit there.

Cons

The management (at least in technical specializations) is not prepared to move forward quickly and make full use of the qualifications of the personnel. In many cases they prefer to do things the old way and only adopt new approaches after the need arises from cooperation with the European System of Central Banks (which on the other hand is a good thing because you are sure things WILL move forward after all). Unfortunately they pay little to no attention to the qualification and career development of people. So if you join be prepared to "close" your career paths and just follow the hierarchy development of the Bank for the rest of your life. By the way, this last thing, hierarchical development, is strictly time-based and does not depend on merit or productivity.
