Pros

My coworkers were generally awesome and easy to work with. I was never overly stressed from work and wasn’t expected to put in crazy hours. The company was very flexible about working from home. The 401k match and healthcare premiums are hard to beat, and the paid paid vacation was a nice perk that gave our family an excuse to plan a fun trip every year.

Cons

As the company is growing, the culture is changing as well. They restructured the marketing organization without much input from directors and managers that led to demotions and pay decreases for people who had been with the company for several years. It did not sit well with most employees, let alone the leaders who got significant pay cuts with no advance notice or suggestion of it being performance related. Instead of promoting internally, they’ve brought on a bunch of outside hires in even though several employees are qualified for or have shown interest in these roles. It’s starting to feel like a different company than the one I originally started working for and it pains me to see them demoting these major leaders who were key to Bamboo’s success for so many years. The company always says that they know their employees can make more money elsewhere but their employees choose to work here because of the culture. They pride themselves in offering middle of the road but fair salaries. I didn’t realize how underpaid I was, however, until I started interviewing elsewhere. Most other jobs for my same position were offering salary ranges up to 50% more than what I was currently making, and that was the norm. It’s one thing to be underpaid by 5-10k. It’s another to be underpaid by 40-50k. I’m not entirely sure what it’s like in other organizations outside of marketing, but for a company that takes so much pride in providing a positive employee experience, it’s starting to feel like they are putting some of their most loyal employees on the back burner.

Pros

At the end of my tenure, I really have no pros.

Cons

I'm pretty sure I was "quietly laid off", in the effort of sneaky downsizing without having to actually do formal layoffs. This place was a godsend and a great place to work on my small independent team, and I did great. Then they did massive restructuring, added layers of hierarchy, added process, and basically just starting running a creative team like a line of factory workers. I had a horrible time with my manager on so many different levels, and felt validation when others would reflect the same, but I reflect what everyone else says - narcissistic, micro managing leadership that I now understand play manipulation games. I was put on a performance improvement plan and finally quit due to burnout, stress, and the dissolution of a role and a team that I had from before. They constantly push for solutions and deliverables, but I never really saw anything I delivered actually get treated and implemented with respect. Company policies and siloed team policies and procedures stymie actual effectiveness, and it seems like the leadership acts as your strict grade school teacher rather than having your back.
