And here we get to POST pandemic BECU, which turned into a nightmare. In 2021 a world infamous CIO was brought in and absolutely devastated Tech. 20% instant layoffs, 40% grand total with serverence, demotions, and long term phase out plans. Multiple offshore MSPs were brought in as well. Now I know MSPs are a sticky subject, and I respect the work that they do. However, MSPs are NOT conducive to a local member focused // charter organization. They are more in line with a mega bank. At that time BECU went beyond remote to offering income in places where they did not have a charter. Fun fact about these places, they are all absolutely anti-employee, pro-employer states. The states BECU went into for remote staff SHOULD have been a red flag for the way the organization was turning more into a bank. But we were all still clinging to what BECU once was that we didn't even notice. Beyond that, Change Management went from lax to draconian. The idea that adding 20gb to a server to patch now required a 5 day change review because the server was tier 1 was both a NEEDED thing (yes, I did say needed) but implemented in a one size fits all approach that absolutely hamstrung the organization.
