Pros
- Some lovely people and talented engineers to learn from and meet.
Cons
- If you land a good project at the start you’ll be okay for a little while but as soon as you want to start moving up the ladder the over-complicated and draining promotion process puts most people off. - Finding a project is wild-west, I was based in London but ended up having to take a project in another city and was expected to live out of a hotel in a business park. - Management are borderline incompetent at times, and at worst malicious. Lots of talking down from senior positions. Patronising at times. - Opportunities are slim if you want to change discipline. - People are treated as a line in a spreadsheet, an opportunity for upper management to get a promotion or a pay rise, moving project or trying to raise concerns isn’t taken seriously. - Compensation is behind the times
