Pros

Coworkers generally pleasant to work with. Office location is nice. 3 weeks per year of vacation begins accruing immediately.

Cons

COVID-19 response is completely irresponsible. All employees forced to work in office despite being completely capable of working from home. "Spyware" installed on all computers that take screenshots and monitor keyboard and mouse movement. This was so unpopular that there was actually a Bloomberg article written about it, using Axos as the primary example of a company that implemented it. When working from home, required to do a daily planner to "prove" you were being productive. When promoted, raises promised only after one year in new position. For everyone I know that was promoted, including myself, the raise did not come after a year despite very positive performance review. This was true for at least 8 other people I know that worked there (out of an office of approximately 40 people). Bonuses are split 50% pay and company stock. Stock doesn't vest until after 3 years. This is EACH TIME a bonus is given, not 3 years of service. Unless you plan to work here for a long time (and most people leave before their 3rd year) this stock is almost worthless unless you have a very high salary. Also, it's very likely your bonus will be the same percentage across an entire team despite the high performers propping up the low performers. This shows that bonuses are not actually based on merit. Pay is lower than industry average regardless of the position held.

Axos Bank Response

Axos recognizes that our team members are our greatest asset and we appreciate your bringing these concerns to our attention. We cannot comment specifically on the promotion issue you raised except to say that in our meritocratic culture team members are rewarded based on their achievements. We’re fully transparent about bonuses: they’re paid twice a year, typically in a 50/50 split between cash and stock. The stock vests over three years: a third after the first year, a third after the second, and the final third after the last year. Bonus decisions are made by managers in consultation with executive leadership, and the kind of blanket bonus award you described runs counter to our meritocratic culture. Finally, we agree 100 percent with your assessment that a manager’s #1 job is to give team members the tools they need to succeed. At Axos, we strongly believe that our team members are better positioned to succeed by working in the office instead of working remotely. Accordingly, we’ve taken numerous precautions to ensure that in-office work happens safely.
