Cons

Product - Complicated, dated, buggy and unintuitive software - Inaccurate or missing technical documentation for users and staff to interact with the system - Very frequently faces production issues due to a lack of standards and processes - Heavy focus on adding features instead of improving the quality of existing products - Product decisions are often not data-driven - Exponential growth of technical debt due to reliance on legacy tech Management - A private, family-owned business with family members and those close to family in high-level positions - Absence of/or lack of data-driven decisions at all levels - Focused on short-term wins rather than long-term success - Hiring processes are not comprehensive enough often resulting in misaligned hires, early terminations and dysfunctional teams - Certain managers and team leads who REALLY should not be in leadership roles and only have those roles due to tenure or by default - Very poor human resource allocation for certain teams - Managers for some teams have changed very often - "Great Place to Work" certification IYKYN Career Development / Recognition - There are no clear pathways or requirements for vertical career advancement - Lack of growth opportunities and advancement due to poor management and pointless performance reviews even if you consistently meet and exceed expectations - Poor employee recognition and rewards - despite employees going beyond expectations Compensation and Rewards - Below average salaries for similar roles and responsibilities - Minimal benefits, no performance bonuses, incentives or end-of-year bonuses Work Expectations - Roles and responsibilities are not clearly defined - Expect to see non-senior staff performing senior responsibilities - Expect to take on responsibilities outside your role - Expect unrealistic deadlines or expectations - If you are based in Brisbane, expect to take on more responsibility than those based remotely - Expect company-wide time tracking and logging Stability - Poor staff retention - High churn especially for management and senior roles. More than 20 people moved on each year for a company with only around ~100 staff which is high even for a software company Communication - Dysfunctional and often absent communication between and within departments - A lot of information is siloed to certain individuals and not documented or shared Onboarding - Severely lacking in documentation and standard processes - A lot of manual setup which could have been automated or prepared beforehand Facilities - The physical workplace environment was visibly derelict and inadequate despite wanting people to work at the office which in my opinion shows a huge lack of respect and empathy for their employees which is ironic when considering the company's HEART values - Owners used the workplace as a storage space for personal items - completely unprofessional
