Pros

- Considering how antiquated the private jet charter industry is, Avinode has been an industry disruptor that is progressive and innovative. - Great benefits overall (100% paid health care, 401K company contribution, end-of-year profit share, 15 days PTO for new employees, 20 days PTO for employees with 2+ years) - Work-life balance is awesome. While you may still answer emails after work, many of demands can wait until the next work day. - If you prove yourself and go above and beyond, there will inevitably be areas for professional growth. - Management I've worked with have been very understanding when it comes to personal matters and flexibility. I also believe that much of this has to do with the trust and work ethic I've put in over the past few years. - The general aviation industry is an exciting, fast-paced industry that sometimes feels like one happy yet dysfunctional family. Lucky for Avinode, we as a technology company don’t get involved in the dysfunctional aspect but hear all about it. - Co-founders are passionate to make their vision a reality. - Marketing does a terrific job with branding and communications and helps keep Avinode the “cool, smart kids” in the industry. - Dynamic work environment with lots of energy. I enjoy coming to work every day. - Work hard, play hard mentality. - Avinode has built solid trust in the industry and will continue to make headway through technological innovations.

Cons

- Collaborative work environment is great but is dependent on everyone pulling their weight. Sometimes your performance can be hindered by someone that drops the ball during the process. - The warm and fuzzy atmosphere many times camouflages what’s really going on - Decision-making really only falls into the hands of a few individuals - The Swedish office practically shuts down the entire summer leaving the other offices to fend for themselves when clients have important questions and need answers. Telling the customer that they have to wait 6-8 weeks for an answer does not work nor does is sound professional. - Development cycles can be rather slow. - HR department is underutilized. - The company is going through growing pains right now. One of the reasons is because finding good talent in Miami is extremely difficult. Never mind the fact that Miami is a transient city. - It is common that employees wear multiple hats. I believe that this sometimes leads to diluted work performance. - Lots of the administrative tasks where the software has buggy performance issues.

Pros

Avinode has some great managers that you can learn a lot from. I really enjoyed working for my last manager there, they always made me feel encouraged, empowered, and supported (even when times were tough for my product). It is a flat organization with a truly open door policy across management. They try to be as transparent as possible with their employees about what is going on in the company (they even have a yearly meeting where they disclose revenue and profits). As others mentioned, the benefits are impressive for such a small company (fully paid health insurance, 401k matching, good vacation time, fully stocked kitchen, breakfast once a week, and snacks on Thursday afternoons). Avinode has a pretty in depth hiring process and they look for people that will fit into their culture; that means that you end up working with people who you (gasp) actually like! I can honestly say that I have never worked somewhere that after leaving I kept in touch with so many former coworkers. It's one of the things I miss the most about Avinode, the people. Overall, I had a positive experience working at Avinode. I would recommend applying here if you have the opportunity.

Cons

They did have some growing pains and "bad apples" that probably lasted a bit longer than they should have because the company was going so rapidly. It also seemed as though policies were changed/employees were monitored/scrutinized more because of others' bad behavior. Sometimes the US offices feel they play second fiddle to Sweden (meetings moved to accommodate them, summers, maternity leave, etc.).

Their management approach generates operational uncertainty within both Commercial and Marketing divisions, effectively constraining middle management's ability to drive meaningful impact. DECISION-MAKING FRAMEWORK: Decision authority remains disproportionately centralized, with the dual Commercial executives maintaining comprehensive control over operational determinations. Success attribution is consistently retained at the executive level, while accountability for suboptimal outcomes is systematically delegated downward to subordinate leadership. ORGANIZATIONAL DYNAMICS: Internal executive interactions frequently manifest visible tension during formal proceedings, fostering an environment of organizational instability. This has resulted in a corporate culture characterized by communication hesitancy and reduced stakeholder engagement. COMMUNICATION STRUCTURE: Executive messaging protocols appear oriented toward maintaining hierarchical authority rather than facilitating clear directional guidance. The current communication framework impedes effective organizational alignment and strategic clarity. There is an underlying kernel of concern. However, using GenAI to write this post makes that kernel hard to discern. It’s a shame, as it leaves me guessing. One of those guesses is that you are not an ex-employee but a current employee. You have the insights of someone sitting on our combined commercial and marketing leadership forum, and given that this structure is only nine months old, that rules out the concern of having come from an ex-employee. Tension always exists between sales and marketing teams. It’s the nature of balancing short-term revenue delivery with longer-term brand and customer promise goals. Avinode Group is no different, particularly as a growing company. We try to improve. For example, establishing the RevEx meeting to align senior commercial, marketing, and CX leadership to prioritise our shared company goals. We all acknowledge it is a work in progress. If my guess is wrong, and you are an ex-employee, I wish you the best in finding an environment where you can thrive. We did not manage this for you, and I wish you had spoken up while you were here.
