Not bad, can be repetitive - Aviation Security Officer Aviation Security Service Employee Review

Pros

Easy work. Shifts are often at times where you'll avoid traffic.

Cons

Some shifts are very early in the morning, around 3am. You'll be enforcing rules that make little sense. Management will enforce SOPs incorrectly constantly and will refuse to listen/read what they have misread/failed to comprehend.

Pros

More annual leave than most, you still get a day in lieu even if you aren’t rostered to work a holiday. Approx 40 AL and 12 days SL. Training is comprehensive.

Cons

You can work 5 hours straight without any rest if your break is assigned as first duty. Illegal if it wasn’t for a loophole that we are “emergency services” or “national security”. And no you can’t come to work late if your break is first duty because it could change last minute. Your annual leave will likely be declined unless booked a year in advance. 3 days off is more like 2.5 because you wake up late for first day and sleep early for the last day. 3am starts. Park and Ride bus adds 30 min to your commute. No variety in duties, 30mins patdowns and 30 min bag search, 30 min patdowns, repeat. Could go for years without unlocking duties that offer variety.

Pros

Great job if you want to join a team and work regular hours, know what your duties will be and have plenty of annual leave

Cons

Repetitive work, strict duty rotation, may or may not have job progression options, 9 day shift pattern, 3 earlies/3 lates/3 days off. Not suitable if you want flexibility or don't like shift work
