Pros

-If you like to read passive aggressive email chains or bizarre slack messages, you’ll never be disappointed -They currently offer compensation for your phone/internet service ($60/month) or transportation ($40/month) -If you like a hybrid job, this may be for you, but my impression is that remote work is going to be phased out by next year along with the internet benefit

Cons

You may very well feel like you are entering the twilight zone, I definitely did. You will constantly doubt your work boundaries and feel like you are being selfish. The president likes to keep his fingers in all the pies of the company and expects everyone to accommodate and defer to his schedule. If the president wants it, you do it immediately. The company wants to grow, but it’s lack of organization and resistance to change (especially from the president) gets in its own way. -Employees regularly work during their paid time off and weekends -Regular microaggressions or flat out racist comments. For example, being told to “speak low and slow like you are talking to a foreign person.” This was in response to my microphone not working during a meeting -My first day someone tried to touch my hair without permission -I received work texts to my personal phone number on weekends -I had to use my personal gmail to access company events on google calendar because the company had not migrated their calendars to outlook -Lackluster COVID safety. My first day everyone in the office was unmasked ( ~15 people), but later I was sent masks courtesy of the company? -You’ll end up doing the work of at least 2 separate jobs -Their IT department is all lighting designers who have to squeeze IT work in their already overloaded schedules. I want to be clear that this by no fault of their own and purely a result work environment

Pros

My time at Available Light was an overall remarkable experience. The company's work culture encourages creativity and collaboration, fostering an environment where ideas thrive. The leadership team demonstrates dedication to nurturing talent and promoting personal growth, which is commendable. The projects I worked on were executed with exceptional attention to detail, showcasing the company's commitment to excellence. The team dynamics were supportive and inspiring, with talented individuals who worked together to achieve outstanding results.

Cons

While Available Light values work-life balance, it is worth noting that the nature of the industry sometimes presents challenges in this regard. Multiple deadlines can occasionally create a demanding work environment. However, the company makes efforts to accommodate employees and provide a positive and harmonious atmosphere. Despite occasional challenges, my time at Available Light was illuminating, and I would recommend it to those seeking a dynamic and creative workplace.
