Pros

Good entry-level job to gain experience.

Cons

I am a military spouse, and being a behavior tech seemed like a good opportunity to enter a portable career field. I have a Masters in psychology and experience with children, so the position seemed like a good fit. When I was offered a position, they initially only offered $11 per hour, which I said no to and eventually settled on $13 per hour, since the position was entry level and they would provide training and a certification. Unfortunately, my husband received PCS orders around the time I needed to recertify (around my one year mark). I tried to stay an and get the recertification, so I could get hired at another ABA company at our new duty station. My supervisors somehow found out I was leaving and decided not to renew the recertification. They accused me of lying about my hours, not doing my job properly, and being unethical by withholding the information that I was leaving (my PCS was still 6 weeks away at this point). They said these things were bad enough that they didn't want to recertify me without being able to guide me to be sure those things didn't continue happening, but they still wanted me to work until my certification ran out in a couple of weeks. I said no thank you, and I quit immediately. I was honestly too shocked and embarrassed to continue working. They then asked me to return to help train my replacement, which I declined to do. I was then told I was unprofessional. Had the PCS not happened to fall near my certification running out, I would probably have said this was a better experience. However, the company basically made sure I would not easily be able to get a new job after I moved. I would NOT recommend this company to a milspouse looking to begin a portable career.

Thank you for this - and for the genuine advice you left for management. Hearing directly from RBTs is something we deeply value, and the fact that you felt those voices weren't reaching the right people is feedback we take to heart. Amazing clients and growth opportunities are things we work hard to protect, and we know that means getting the environment and leadership around them right too. Communication and stability are areas we're actively investing in, and your perspective helps shape that work. Thank you for everything you gave to your clients.
