Pros

Flexible with hours. No drug test

Cons

Often overworked for small pay. Their techs are expected to travel large distances for the equivalent of a McDonalds cashier. They offered to build an entire apartment complex for "affordable living" rather than just paying their employees an actual livable wage. Multiple people left without giving their two weeks because of how cliquish the work environment is.

We are so sorry you had a poor experience with us and thanks for your honest review! Our other reviews don't really match up with this story, but we are sorry this is your takeaway from your time at Austin Retina. Our techs definitely make way more than McDonald's cashiers, although cashiers certainly work very hard. We continually benchmark our pay and we're confident that we are extremely competitive on total compensation. We are always looking for people who take pride and accountability in their work -- everyone on our team is passionate about Saving Sight and being of Service to others -- and those who aren't usually decide to leave. Feel free to reach out to our HR department and share your thoughts in more detail!

Pros

Amazing co-workers and physicians. Beautiful offices, PTO accrual is at a good rate. good growth and skills learned in all departments. Regional aspect makes it better for work-life balance. Remote positions available(after experience).

Cons

Extremely short staffed to where people are burnt out. Not much acknowledgement to burn out. Being told they are making changes to make it better for employees, but making it more difficult. Being told we are heard, which may be true, but are not understood. Plans to rely on AI for working models to cut cost. Increasing physician count and patient count while reducing staff or keeping it the same, spreading current staff thinner. due to burn out, many people are quitting. high turnover rate.

Your feedback that employees feel heard but not always understood is especially important, and we are focusing on more direct engagement and follow-through. As we continue to grow, our goal is to support our teams—not stretch them too thin. We appreciate your honesty and will continue working toward meaningful improvements.
