Pros

I feel obligated to say something here. Everyone looks for jobs and joins a company working some period and then leave for next one, very normal. A company is just a station where you stay with for a period then the other station. To a person, we call it a career. I believe everyone share some career ethics that are when you’re working with a company, you cherish the time and the people; when you left a company you say farewell and thank for the time and people; if you like you stay longer, or you leave sooner. No need to speak ill of or spread something bad over anybody anything. Life is too short. God has no obligation to make you happy on everything or every day, nor make everything fit with your expectation, totally. I’m working with Asian Metal for more than ten years. Asian Metal is indeed a great company. I should say that the achievement and reputation we have gained today have never been easy, no easy a single day, but we did make it through to a great success. I am proud of the glory we won from the market. But we do have some bad apples not competent really but for some reason was given a position to manage a team in Pittsburgh office, who made the office totally a mess, very low morale. No people carefully worked, coming to office later and leaving early very frequently, very loss a team. Consequently, the team gave a very poor performance, keeping losing many clients. As our senior management level usually only visited the office 3-4 times a year, around one to two weeks a time, it was impossible for them to give any material or relatively detailed instruction and consequently lost control over there. The office was closed and all people there 3 or 4 were laid off, so some very unhappy. Don’t know why did not bring some to New York. But all of them were later hired by the other consulting company in the metal industry, just because of their work experience in Asian Metal. Ha, it does value. It rightly verified Asian Metal’s reputation! I must say Asian Metal is a great company. I have worked with Asian Metal for more than ten years. We together with lots of other colleagues grew the business up, day by day, month by month, year by year, and bit by bit. I have seen it grow up, from ten to twenty people ten more years ago to once close to two hundred employees today, from a non name company to today’s world renown transnational corporation, widely respected by the world metal market, best in China, best in Asia, and one of the best if not the best in the world metal market. I, personally, grew from a green hand to a professional, building my team from small to big. I love talking to my clients, to help them make more profits, to help them avoid more losses, to analyze the market trend for them and to advise them to take action at a right time. I enjoy the work and I made lots of friends in the industry. I love the feeling of being respected by the clients, being needed by the clients and I share the happiness that I can bring lots of value to clients. And of course, I love working with those very smart colleagues. We together won the reputation for Asian Metal. Asian Metal’s philosophy is to provide most insightful, most updated, most quick, most original and most firsthand information for the market, if we had achieved the targets, so around half a day every day, every of our market analyst would communicate with market participants from around the world, almost every country, from miners, smelters, traders to consumers, as well as lots of equity, stock and investment institutions. We have always tried our best to just want to be the best of firsthand information provider in the metals world. In the world, there are so many companies, too many companies, so fierce competition. To survive, to develop and to live well, as I understood, we must do something different from others, unique from others and exclusive from others. We work very hard to produce original information. We don’t copy from any website and do not purchase from any company. We have conversation directly with clients in every corner of the world and collect, integrate, analyze and present to Asian Metal’s subscribers. We’re proud in our work. We are strongly supported and desperately needed by our clients. It is a proved success. It is really a hard work, combined with sweat and fun. Someday, I might resign from the company, ----could be only an issue of date, but I would say it’s a place I once fought for, and there is joy, pain and dream. I would cherish the memory of the time, as it is a part of my life and I respect myself, never ever regret my options and so on.

Cons

Nevertheless, it also has some flaws and problems. As it grows too fast, lots of times the team construct work stays far behind expected, which brought many risks and repeated work.

Pros

I'm with Asian Metal for over 8 years, very long. Yes, just like here. It is second home to me, just a big family. People here are very kind and helpful. They are very smart and capable colleagues and most of them are very professional, an expert within their specific market, well respected by market participants from their industries. Working with them is a great experience and I’ve learnt a lot and grown up very fast. Every day we have conversation with people from different countries active in the metals market, analyze the market development trend for them, give price assessment for the metals and write market reports. I did build a very strong network. Clients are very warmhearted to call in very frequently every day, seeking for my analysis and advices. I really enjoy it as I know that I am greatly needed by them and they refer my opinions to take some actions. Asian Metal is a leader in the metal consulting industry, not one of but the best, of course, it is because of lots of colleagues’ many years’ hard work, so we also make very decent pay, well above most of other local companies in the same industry, almost around one time higher, totally not second to any others. Many free drinks, many free cookies, unlimited supply, free lunch, free commutes between home an office, and holiday gifts, ----everything you could expect. You just feel like a home working here. Some people also get some performance based equity fund. It is a great company in general.

Cons

Too many people and too good welfare with some negative energy ones hidden inside

Pros

Interesting intellectual work as far as learning about the metals industry and most people I spoke to day in and day out over the phone were really nice and helpful. Developed wonderful relationships with prospective clients. Colleagues in the Local (Pittsburgh) and London office were fabulous to work with, so the hiring was great.

Cons

The CEO does not manage effectively at all and, while he will tell you that you are an analyst, you actually serve in a call center role where it is more important to garner subscriptions than to actually focus on doing your job well. A lack of appropriate subscriptions, which was often due to speculation of a down-turn in the market and has nothing to do with the employees at Asian Metal not working hard enough, ended up in having privileges revoked, sometimes financial penalizations (not receiving bonus money that was previously promised to you), and we were told it could lead to loss of our jobs, though I don't believe anyone was fired due to that. My worst experience was when the CEO took money out of my paycheck without my consent (which you cannot do in Pennsylvania) as a penalization for "taking too many vacation days" which he had previously approved and I had to spend six months working with a local court and talking to lawyers to get the money back. The money was returned eventually, but it took me half a year to get it and was definitely a huge hassle. This was the reason I quit my job with the company.
