Pros

Coworkers are sweet, and dedicated to its' noble mission Benefits are good for a non- profit Good for entry into the work force Bad management is a double edged sword, so many bad managers and management styles, that you end up learning what a good manager/ management should be like, and you strive to be that

Cons

- Organization is supposed to be "grassroots" but in the last 5 years, had lost its' touch with the community and functioned in a top- down fashion. - Management was horrible, especially on the executive level. - Problem solving between staff and management was the worst, very unprofessional way of dealing with conflicts (silent treatments, non- responsive to emails/ ignoring, like high school mentality). - Management will overwork, under-appreciate, demean and demoralize you to an extent that's unbearable and make you question your work/ worth. - Absolute minimal structure in place, making work harder than it needs to be. - Some of the executive staff have been there for far too long, comfortable in their position and only do things in their own way. They were not receptive to new ideas or change, it's either their way or no way. - Management pretends to listen but no action is ever taken, high turnover in many of the clinics/departments - Last minute work and requests, with unreasonable expectations for quick turnaround. - Things move so slow - No chance for career advancement or professional development opportunities, for promotions it can take months to process as I've seen. Many staff were there for 5-10+ years and were still in their same position and title. - It is an Asian- focused organization, but the lack of diversity could be felt and seen. - Sometimes, some of the expenditures and expenses were questionable like free lunches, t- shirts, books.

Pros

Co-workers are friendly and supportive, makes the workload more bearable. Providers and frontline staff are passionate about helping patients and making sure they get the care they need and deserve. Snacks are given occasionally as a show of appreciation. Free healthcare and vacation/sick accruement is fair.

Cons

Management: Management is dismissive to employee's complaints, and staff are told to bring complaint up to Union. Pay: Although pay is competitive, the work required is more than doubled the standard PSR workflow. And any work that seems ambiguous are trickled down to be PSRs' work. PSR is 1 department that does the work of 3 departments (Referrals, Phone, Front Desk), but Phone and Referrals department are only required to do their own roles (with same or more pay). Strikes are constant due to unfairness in pay and frontline staff are devalued. Management seeks to grow AHS while turning a blind eye to the staff that are aiding patients every day. Inflation is apparent, but management is still penny pinching a fair wage. Career Growth: Opportunity is nonexistent unless you are going down medical path. As for someone who is passionate about healthcare administration and is looking for growth within the field, I am hard blocked by strict job filters without any leniency (even as an employee in the company for years.) Company Vision: The AHS mission statement is to "serve and advocate for the medically underserved", but it seems like they abandon the workers that are in the frontline serving and advocating.
