Pros
Coworkers and providers who care
Cons
Your work should be an expression of your passion. Many of us are in healthcare because we care about people and want to make a difference. Working for Ascension has many trying to provide care and compassion while the hospital giant ties your hands behind your back. Numerous aspects of the "ministry" are outsourced to places like India and the Philippines. Equipment and computer software consistently problematic with no resolution. Emails to HR and risk management unanswered. Minimal pay. Skeleton crews for face to face care while numerous at home employees chime in on the care of patients they don't know. Campaigns on improving customer service blaming employees for not smiling or introducing themselves while the complaints from patients are the phone system that doesn't work, referrals that take too long to process from the at home team and having to contact 3 or 4 separate "silos" of the process to accomplish one task. Leadership that cant/won't help change processes for the benefit of patients. Poor, poor training and hiring cheap, warm bodies instead of qualified candidates. Providers in offices with no coverage for patients when they are on vacation. High turnover. Systems that don't communicate so that labs and imaging orders are consistently missed. So sad to see how things really operate knowing you can't be a part of a positive change.
