Pros

Smart, talented coworkers and direct exposure to clients within the electric utility industry.

Cons

I worked at Ascend for about two years. The CEO personally asked me (and others) to post fake, positive Glassdoor reviews. I left for this and many other ethical reasons outlined in previous reviews. Narcissism, sexism, racism, verbal abuse, and abhorrent moral standards are ingrained in the company culture because they come from the top. In writing the fake reviews, the CEO told us to use language that wasn't too professional and to include spelling errors so that people would think the reviews were "created by an analyst and not a member of leadership" as if analysts didn't have a fourth grade spelling competency. I would say 95% of the positive reviews for this company were created by the CEO or by others following his direction. If you look closely many of the positive reviews use the same language which is basically a reiteration of words from the mission statement - "dynamic," "better models, better decisions." It's glaringly transparent.

Lots of highly talented people to learn from and collaborate with. Little/no office politics. Feel like everyone wants the company to be successful. Lots of growth opportunities. Good work-life balance. The company supports remote and hybrid work. Arranges multiple activities to support team building and fun office atmosphere.

Pros

Ascend has an excellent work culture which emphasizes knowledge, value creation, and quality service to our clients. These are the foundations of our mission, which is to further the energy transition. What I most appreciate about this company is the fact that there is an honest conversation about what this means, and our approach remains pragmatic. You won't find the cliches of other companies here, and we believe in our work and results over slogans. Our CEO understands the work we do as individuals, and doesn't believe he is "above" us. He loves to hear from us, and sees the value of our contributions. You won't find a management disconnect, or commanding attitude from leadership. You aren't expected to ever "put on a show," and everyone is their best professional authentic self in the office.

Cons

Issues from legacy practices do return from time to time. Information can be better codified, and processes and documentation need to be refined. This lack of inter-team transparency can create some extra steps and many unnecessary meetings, but we are moving away from that.
