This company is a real-life business case study in what not to do organisationally and strategically. Working here reminds me of the last scene in Monty Python’s Life of Brian where Eric Idle sings 'Always look on the Bright Side' while being crucified. As much as I dislike cynicism, I also don’t find it healthy to keep gaslighting yourself and everyone by insisting that ‘things are gonna get better’. In fairness many legacy issues have been acknowledge and addressed. But it’s also true that some critical problems are left in the hands of decision-makers who appear out of their depths and don’t seem to have the skills or mindset to resolve them effectively. Every organisation will have questionable individuals and operational challenges. What matters is how those issues are handled. Not only are there few measures to hold people accountable, the absence of strong culture and clear processes has led to serious loss of ownership, fairness and equity across the board. This, in turn, negatively impacts motivation, productivity, and ultimately retention. For those considering applying: it could be an interesting opportunity for senior professionals with years of experience in the industry looking for unique challenges. As I said, the whole place is a what-not-to-do-case-study so if you can come in and turn things around, it’ll be a great story to tell and a good addition to your CV. For normies with less experience, I wouldn’t recommend joining at this time. If you don’t have a choice for some reason, focus on developing yourself. Work hard, stay alert and start looking for new opportunities sooner rather than later. And who knows, maybe in a few years things will actually get better (but take into account there are numerous factors in play in the current state of things at the company).
