Contradictory Messages, Poor Support Systems and A Focus on Money - Professor Arizona State University Employee Review

Faculty receive very contradictory messages about teaching, research, community service, professional service, academic service, and entrepreneurial activities. There are year-to-year contradictions in the requests and demands made on faculty by department chairs and deans for faculty performance. Worse, if faculty comply with those requests and the priorities change, the lack of performance in one area is used for negative appraisals even though the emphasis on another area was documented as approved by a previous chair or dean.
