Pros

Parks are in beautiful places and some of the people who work there actually care about the environment. Free admission to state parks and free camping/cabins.

Cons

Many people only work there because they like to be outside or they like the "idea" of being a park ranger not the actual park ranger culture. Upper-level and headquarters management, don't understand fieldwork, what is happening in the parks, and how their parks are being managed. The entire thing is the "good ole boys club" it's all about who you know, how well you lie, and how you schmooze. Standards for employees are low and the mission is to make money not to support the outdoor space. The mission is about the benefit of the people, not the planet. If you care about the environment and make a positive change for the better, this is not the organization for you. Managers get away with unethical behavior with no repercussions even when headquarters staff are made aware.

Pros

Get to be outdoors, that's about it.

Cons

If you have education, skills and experience it means nothing. You are there to be a janitor. No opportunities to interact with the public. Better to go work at a RV Park. Absolutely no on the job training, no career development, just want a warm body to clean bathrooms.
