Pros

Working with dedicated people who want contribute to the people of the state. Our office does some incredible work and everyday we make things better for individuals with civil rights or consumer issues. Young attorneys here get opportunities they would wait years for in private firms. Attorneys work on high-profile cases everyday and have the ability to move to different areas of the law within the office for greater experience. There are opportunities for advancement for everyone because even if you don't see the promotional opportunities in this office, you can transfer to other state agencies and keep your seniority and benefits. I've worked in private companies before and found just as many non-motivated people in private as in government. They're everywhere. I've worked here for over twenty years and have had the pleasure of knowing so many amazing and motivated people. I would highly recommend this office.

Cons

Yes, the salaries are lower than working in a private company or firm. But after working in private companies with few or no benefits it's good to have a retirement plan that will not end when my contributions run out. I would rate the benefits five stars and the compensation four.
