Pros

The teaching is an Online teaching which would allow you flexibility and advantage to focus on your research projects. That is the only advantage I could discover after working 3 years here. A good salary but no flight tickets for me.

Cons

This university has no decent HR staff trained or qualified enough to treat employees with care. I came to this university as an expatriate and unfortunately I left my full time position for them as I thought since it might be similar to the OU UK but it has nothing to do with it apart from the courses. I suffered at the beginning to settle; no onboarding, no directions; you will not receive their guidelines or instructions or politics and policies of tasks; hours; and even internal communications. My manager was a competent indian scholar but then after I started he unfortunately resigned as they chose a master degree to occupy his place as a dean. It was fine for me; started to work normally; and started as well to form research groups; initiatives; workshops; and teach with excellency. The problem also you have is that there exists lot of branches within KSA making it hard and impossible to have an effective communication with the colleagues. At the faculty of language studies where I was teaching; the team is very poor and I am not underestimating anyone; they are all their ancient teachers but if you check their profiles; you would find them barely publishing papers; an eight years experienced for example with non scopus and they were happy with them as you work you discover that they do not care about productivity. They care about how much you are a yes person. I was profoundly and deeply hurt by how they treated me and this trauma will be everlasting. I have given a lot and participated a lot. In my second year in the department in Dammam we got a new colleague who is a national. Nationals are given the full voice and judgment in this company. No matter what you do; you will not be recognised; if you are too qualified and your head felt you are a threat you will be evicted immediately. It is a toxic work environment and during all 3 years I had daily high blood pressure due to their management who does not care about her colleague; does not listen and ignores everything. The team members are all acting like there is a race of who will stay; so you will be attacked frequently dont be surprised; you will be tricked; just to throw blame on you. I was framed by the dean and her ally my direct manager who could not bear my frequent production and speaking in conference. She closes her doors daily; pushing students even to leave the hall and iust send emails. So imagine the work culture you will be isolated; no one will be able to hear you; I emailed with courtesy the president office to discuss certain points I saw necessary and I believed naively in advancing the courses; and doing a lot but they do not like that although in gatherings they act as if they encourage communication. The management and all institutions feels to be a family institution. If you are an expatriate and you want to get paid and that’s it; teach your hours and do not publish. You will stay there for years and years. If you publish and point at certain shortcomings you risk… I do not know how a company pays well people who teach with mediocrity; I peer reviewed lot of courses; and it is soo sad for me to see students just getting stuck and non inspired; lot of students struggle and I remarked an inflation in marks. I once double reviewed with this colleague who framed me and the mark was sooo high and I told her. Of course what solution the dean will apply here is changing me courses not to discover what they do. So imagine what I was going through. I published a scopus book and no one has that in all university; 2 other papers too; chapters in reputable publishers but I received 0 riyals for them because the policy is always against giving money; which is unfair. I would end with the fact; that their HR and all would not consider your life; it does not matter; after my maternity leave coming back; three months later I was informed in a poor way in a whatsapp message by an administrative not even top management that they wont renew my contract! I stopped my husband from his work; just to care for the baby and to work to be informed by this; I was going to sue them at court but their email was empty no reason; just they know how to play with the law non renewal duration ended. This is dishonest behaviour that I have let Allah to reward them. I had a muscle pain and a strain for 3 months thank nearly a heart attack,…. This was my experience and you can check yourself the members faculty in this department….
