Good working culture - Software Developer Applauze Employee Review

Working at Applause had been such a great learning experience for me. The CEO is extremely passionate about what he does and knows where he wants to take the company. My colleagues were smart and a very considerate bunch of people. We’ve had 9 app of the weeks, 5 apple hall of fame apps, 2 google play featured apps and the products speak for themselves.

The hours are sometimes long.

Casual office, mostly friendly staff. Company throws lots of parties and buys lunch pretty much every day.

The CEO is nuts! He creates an incredibly stressful environment by walking around yelling when he thinks something is wrong. Usually nothing is wrong and he just misunderstood an email or some project (run by time strapped employers) is taking too long. The company is terrible at spending money. They blew through a $10+ million dollar round of funding in less than a year. They contract to hire everyone but invest almost NO time in developing you as an employee. I'm not a Dev but the Devs seem lazy. The CTO defends them but it mostly seems like he's making excuses. No direction from the top down. This is a company who's business revolves around smart phone apps. This is also a company where the CEO wanted to open an office in London BEFORE an Android app was even built. The decision making here is mind boggling. The CEO is like a child who sees something shiny, wants it, then forgets about it almost immediately.
