Pros

Decent space. Commuter benefits.

Cons

Everything except for the stuff listed above. Working for Apartments.com became a nightmare after it was acquired by CoStar in 2014. CoStar came into the multifamily community not knowing anything about the customers, the consumers or the culture of the business. They claim they're a savvy, smart and high-tech company, but they really don't know anything about running a consumer facing internet business. Spending a lot of money on advertising was their innovation. They like to throw a lot of money at people, especially the higher ups, to go along with whatever the CEO dictates. All decisions are based off of what he wants, likes or mere fear of what will happen if you don't do as your told. Management is a mess, with people reporting into folks in DC, with little or no engagement. When people have been let go, they haven't been replaced and their jobs have just been absorbed by the DC office. All the systems are internal systems, because they are better than the external resources available to normal businesses according to CoStar There is no culture anymore, what used to be a fun family environment has now turned into a cold, corporate place. People who used to regularly work late because of their dedication to the company and love for it, leave right at 5pm now because they are not valued. Money doesn't buy culture, happiness or a work life balance. Do yourself a favor and look for another great tech company in Chicago to work for. ApartmentFinder folks beware!

Pros

Strong brand recognition, supportive coworkers, and excellent opportunities to develop new skills. The fast-paced environment provides exposure to a diverse client base and a variety of business challenges, creating valuable professional growth and learning opportunities.

Cons

Priorities can shift quickly, creating a more reactive work environment that may not be the right fit for everyone. Success requires a high degree of adaptability, self-motivation, and comfort with change. Performance expectations are generally standardized across markets, which can make it challenging to account for differences in local market conditions and opportunities. Additionally, administrative requirements and performance metrics can be time-intensive and may reduce the amount of time available for direct client engagement and revenue-generating activities.
