Pros

I'd felt stalled with my career growth for a bit when I joined Anthem in order to take a position with more leadership responsibilities. Alex and Rick take a vested interest in enabling their employees to grow their careers in the direction the employee envisions. New business opportunities are evaluated for how interesting they'll be to the type of talent the company is looking to hire. Welcoming company culture where everyone's input is considered.

Cons

401(k) contributions and pay aren't as competitive as I would like to see, but I'm expecting this to get better as the company grows. The only bonuses seem to be referral bonuses. Current contract offerings lend themselves to more self-starter internally motivated types so there's not much room to offer day-to-day mentoring for more junior employees, but there is an active company Slack for getting help when you run into speed bumps on your program.

Pros

I've worked for a few companies, both large and small. Anthem is the one company that really puts their employees first and doesn't just care about the bottom line. In addition to being an employee focused company, Anthem is also very mission focused. They really do care about the mission. I find my co-workers to be like minded in that they love technology and they enjoy the mission. It's hard to find a small business where the leadership team knows what it takes to run a company without making it feel like a sausage factory.

Cons

No cons that I can think of. I would say that if you're someone that needs others to think for you and hold your hand in everything you do then this is probably not the place for you. Apply for a job with a large business. The people that I work with are great team players and are self-starters with drive and initiative. I've learned a lot from them.
