Low Salary, Very Slow Career Growth - R&D Manager Ansys Employee Review

Pros

Most colleagues are very smart, down to earth and always willing to help. Not too much politics on day to day.

Cons

Salary is much lower than average compared to other similar tech companies for the work one does. Ansys should stop comparing salaries to similar companies but instead to similar roles. Job growth is very slow and only Tenure based. Not as easy to move around in the company and this norm isn’t really present so it takes a lot to try and move internally and if you do want to do something different then it’s a step down in salary. Many employees are overworked as Ansys tends to be more lean and they underpay. Over the years transparency from senior management has also reduced. I fear. Ansys might soon suffer in innovation as there isn’t much time to spend on experimental projects. A lot of time gets spent in paperwork and projects are mainly decided by the senior leads and PMs. Lastly Ansys’ parental leaves a lot to desire when compared to other tech companies.

Pros

Flexibility with WFH/Hybrid depending on your job/team Great starting PTO + decent sick/family time Challenging work Smart, hard-working co-workers People work here for decades because it's a great work culture

Cons

It's a software company. Cramming features in at the last minute, and requiring long hours from testing & doc to meet deadlines, is frustrating but not unexpected Benefits are just OK - lost all of my doctors when they stopped having one local insurance option If you're in R&D but not an engineer, you are undervalued for bonuses No upward path if you don't want to manage - eventually you stagnate and have nowhere to go Agile dev process is challenging for documentation and testing and is not always realistic with big projects Huge uncertainty after Synopsys buyout - I've had bad experiences with EDA companies undervaluing some jobs in the past (testing/doc] so not feeling any job security at the moment
