Avoid Working Here - Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst American Electric Power Employee Review

Pros

Pay is decent and good benefits. People are generally friendly and try to be helpful

Cons

Culture especially in CP&B group of finance has drastically decreased over the last few years. Executive leadership doesn’t seem to care or “get it”. I’ve never seen moral this low in any org I’ve ever worked at. People openly just mention “oh yah, definitely looking for a new job” on a regular basis or “I hate it here”. Save yourself the headache and hassle and look for a different company.

Pros

New leadership seems to be focused on growing the share value, which means investing heavily in programs for reliability and storm restoration. There are tons of amazing and intelligent people to work with. There's ERG's for most groups. Community involvement is a priority. The employees truly do care about the customers. Great benefits due to recent enhancements and decent pay for the areas we serve.

Cons

New leadership seems to be focused on growing the share value. Advancement for a woman is extremely difficult. You can prove yourself over and over and get nowhere. Training is non-existent when you are hired. You just have to figure out what you are supposed to do and how to do it as you go along. Many times you just have to know someone who knows what you should be doing and ask them. When you ask someone what they do, sometimes they reply "I don't really know yet". There is little to no standardization when it comes to security roles in the computer systems. You also have to find someone to ask what access you need. Policies are either non-existent or so complicated that more time (and money) is spent following them than any savings gained by following them. There are unqualified people hired and even promoted because of who they know. There are still areas of this company where bigotry is rampant and controls hiring decisions. All remote jobs have been eliminated and moved to on-site which really limits opportunities for growth in rural areas without relocating to more urban areas. Ethics and Compliance has no authority to act when wrongdoing is proven which leaves unscrupulous employees in jobs for years which ruins the credibility of management.
