Pros
Helping the elderly is a worthwhile job, even if you can just bring a smile to their faces or brighten their day with a friendly chat or make them laugh again helps to let them know you do care about them as valued members of your extended family!
Cons
The time constraints that managment put on the staff on the floor, expectations are unrealistic with the staff to resident ratio, Managment dont give a tinker dam about the staff, the longer youve been there the more they expect you to do. New staff are given preferntial treatment over long term staff. Booking holidays is unreasonable, you are expected to wait to see if any one else wants that time off, and if you had your holidays before at that time the other person is given preference over you, even if you have been there for 15 years and probabaly had your holidays in every month of the year. They dont give a dam if thats the only time your husband can have holidays. Bullying is eppidemic, Intimidation of staff seems to be a prerequisites for the job as a site manager, Im sure managment is given a frontal labotomy on employment with Amana Living Their is no compasion for the family of the residents, too bad that youve just lost your mum or dad, you get 24 hours to clear out their belongings, forget the fact that your grieving, and just suffered a major loss!
