Pros

Used to be the pay, but with recent pay cuts, that’s no longer a pro. The staff I worked with were truly amazing people, we were a family in that store.

Cons

Basically everything else. This company fabricated itself behind “Stand Out For Good” but it does NOT SOFG. The CEO, Aaron Walter’s hides behind it being a predominantly woman company saying he “supports women” but will turn around and make sexist remarks and believes feminists are wrong. Visits from the District Managers sent panic through the stores because expectations kept raising while staffing kept dropping. This location has been without a store manager on multiple occasions now and will make its Assistant Store Managers (with no previous experience) take on all the store manager duties with no real direction or coaching, while still expecting the same results. They also do not properly compensate for those situations where an ASM or keyholder is taking on extra responsibilities. Keyholders are offered very very minimal benefits and with the pay cuts happening it’s only going by I get worse. They used to do quarterly bonuses, no more. They used to do annual trips for the store manager, no more. They used to have a nicer dress code, no more. The longer I worked there the more the benefits or perks from working for the company were being taken away. They raised wages in 2022, realized that was a business decision they couldn’t afford and are now back tracking and lowering EVERYONES pay while cost of living is at its highest.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We empathize with the impact our recent pay adjustments have had on our associates. Although this decision was difficult, we believe making adjustments in pay across all teams was reasonable in comparison to eliminating jobs due to the circumstances of our current economy. We appreciate the sacrifices you made for the organization and delivering an exceptional guest experience.

Pros

I’ve been with Altar’d State for several years now and have had the opportunity to grow into higher-volume stores while continuing my journey of professional development. One of the most special things about Altar’d State is watching the company evolve and transform year after year. The organization consistently makes a genuine effort to stay true to its mission of “standing out for good.” Like any workplace, there are challenges, but I’ve learned more here than anywhere else in my career. The company truly invests in the growth and development of its people. Each week, every store holds a leadership meeting where leaders come together to learn more about the business, participate in open dialogue, and align on priorities and actions for the week ahead. Leaders also have a dedicated weekly touch-base with their Store Leader focused on personal growth and development, along with a monthly all-store meeting to align the entire team on goals and focus. One of the things I’m most proud of is the opportunity I’ve had to develop others. Over the years, I’ve been able to promote more than 10 leaders into Store Leader and Assistant Store Leader roles across the country. Seeing people grow into their potential has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. For me, Altar’d State has been a place of tremendous growth both professionally and personally. Because of this organization, I’ve been able to achieve milestones I once only hoped for—like buying my home and supporting my family in ways I never thought possible.

Cons

There are moments when the organization feels reactive in its strategic approach. Some initiatives feel like they could benefit from more intentional planning and finer tuning before being rolled out to teams.

Pros

Everyone that isn’t a leader is nice in my opinion

Cons

They wanted us to be more peppy and cheerful, but when I did it the manager would ask me why am I being loud. But when I was quiet they would assume something is wrong with me and talk behind my back about how they think I don’t want to be there. I just have to ask why is it considered loud when I follow the standards.. these were managers talking about this (store manager & district manager). You would think if there was an actual issue with my customer service performance a customer would complain about me or the manager would politely ask me if I’m doing okay instead of talking behind my back and making assumptions. It makes me wonder why was I singled out amongst the entire team? It came off as micro aggressive and offensive as a poc.
