Pros

HR is kind and responsive. That's about where it ends

Cons

My last post apparently never made it, so I will post it again. This company is absolutely awful toward the military. In my personal experience, they will violate USERRA at any chance they get. I am a currently serving National Guard soldier with commitments to my service that must be met. Prior to employment, I had SUTAs approved by my unit. At the time, I was serving in an active duty capacity, meaning I would not have had to make up my SUTA days for drill weekends, as I had been on active duty status for the past two years. However, I left my active duty position to join this company because it seemed like a great opportunity to grow and continue learning in the IT field—despite taking an almost $20/hour pay cut from my active duty pay. I was incredibly wrong. Before starting, I spoke with management multiple times about my prior SUTAs and explained that now that I was no longer on active duty, these days would need to be made up during the workweek. I made it clear that I would need to go to base and miss a few days of work because of this. I was told repeatedly that this was fine—until I submitted the requests for those days off. I was then called and told that it "seems like I have a commitment issue" and was terminated. How exactly do I have commitment issues when I was completely upfront about this before my start date, specifically so management would not be blindsided? I had just bought a brand-new car because I would need to drive four hours to Pittsburgh for training, and I didn’t trust my old vehicle to make the trip. I was even willing to cancel a vacation that I had planned and paid for nearly a year in advance—a trip that had already been approved by the military. Canceling would have meant losing over $1,000 from my deposit, yet I was still told that I was the one with commitment issues. In reality, this company is the one with commitment issues. They will tell you that something is fine, then turn around and fire you for it. Had I not been able to return to my prior active duty military role, this company would have completely turned my life upside down. I do not recommend taking a gamble on your livelihood and well-being with this company. They will drop you over any minor inconvenience, even when you discuss it in advance and receive their approval.
