Pros

The work with the clients is incredibly rewarding because the young people who enter through AFC's doors are truly some of the best and strongest people you'll ever meet. The other direct service staff were amazing to work with, especially at the drop in center. Almost everyone at the drop in center is a part of the queer community which was a great experience in itself. I also got lucky in having great supervision, there are some fantastic supervisors there.

Cons

The in-house politics are unheard of, especially among upper management and between departments. The fighting between directors in different departments is felt among the clients and it affects their overall well-being. At times it felt like some upper management staff were supportive when speaking with them face to face, but many of their actions showed them finger pointing blame towards the direct service staff when it wasn't necessary. Many other direct service and mid-management staff would voice out that we were all burnt out, that there was no relief in sight, and something needed to change, and even though they say "we hear you", the following responses/actions/inactions would always show how they'll leave things be instead of seeing how the work has changed over the years. The caseloads are immensely high and unmanageable, the turnover rate was also incredibly high, and some practices that are done at AFC could be viewed as highly unethical as well.
