Pros

My first manager was great, a mother who had been in that position for some time. The schedule was a bit more organized under her and she was very easy to communicate with.

Cons

Our management changed several times, for the worse. My second manager often did not allow student guides to eat during long events (typically 7am-4pm) and did not account for us student workers for catering. The pay was basic, about $12 at the time. We would often come in to work for our scheduled tour dates, only to learn that there were absolutely no tours to give. This meant that our paychecks were VERY unpredictable and work still conflicted with our classes and extracurriculars.

Pros

Tuition remission is valuable to some, but not all. Really only beneficial to high income families who do not qualify for Federal & NYS grants and loans. Tuition remission only applies to undergraduate degrees. If you have already paid for your student’s education, give this place a miss. Their Purple Perks are more like Bogus Bucks. Basically Monopoly money.

Cons

- decades of wage stagnation/no raises - high turnover due to poverty wages - stingy vacation time and sick time - expectations of participating in after-hours bonding exercises - rigid schedule, no flextime, limited work-from-home opportunities - if you have a Bachelors or Masters degree, trust that a student worker, landscape technician and cafeteria staff member may make more than you do - expectations of contributing to pot lucks, retirement/birthday party gifts, all while knowing how little much of the staff makes - buildings are rarely cleaned, expect to move into a filthy office that you will spend 3 hours cleaning and another 20 minutes a week keeping it that way - food-centered goodwill is hyped up in the absence of true appreciation in the form of fair and reasonable earnings I could seriously go on for much longer.
