Pros

I worked at Alares Engineering for 3 years. I liked the work because it was diversified and meaningful. The main mission of the company is to help improve the lives of veterans through design services. the company is growing in all areas of design. they recently won a major contract to provide design services for all federal and state buildings in New England. I would have stayed at Alares but my wife got a great job out of state. I enjoyed the people who are very friendly and it is a nice place to work. The owner is a former green beret and west pointer. I have learned a lot from him and respect him a lot. He is one of the best bosses I worked for. The hours are reasonable and flexible. The owner allows engineers to work independently and does not interfere unless deadlines are missed. there is fast advancement to positions of authority if that is what you want. I would recommend Alares to any engineer.

Cons

the work can be out of state so expect to travel a few days per month to visit job sites. if you like travel then it is good.

Pros

- Great coworkers and managers - You get to travel all over the US. In between travel days, you work on MEP design or reports relating to the site visits. - Gain experience in healthcare related HVAC, especially hydronics. - So far no long days (even during travel the days will often end at 4 or 4:30), overall good work life balance if the travel doesn't bother you. - Benefits overall in line with industry standard

Cons

- At times it can be a bit too much travel, sometimes even two weeks in a row, though you do learn a lot. It appears you can expect to travel for a week about every 2 months or so. For me this is a pro, but I can see it being a con for some people. - Not much of an onboarding process but overall they are lenient with newer employees. - Technology could be better. They have dedicated Revit/CAD pc's rather than everyone having their own license. Though it sort of makes sense because rarely are many people doing design at the same time, and it's not a big company. The dedicated pc's run software pretty well at least.

Pros

Some Pros you will benefit from working at Alares: - Use of Procore Technology software. this is A++++ and not found at many companies. - Large enough to get a $10M project completed, yet small enough to care about all their employees. - They foster a Vertical growth environment, but allow their employees to steer there own path to success. - You'll always be a name to the company and not just a number. - You'll be able to wear many hats throughout your role whether you're a PM, APM, or Super. Everyone has a hand in the process here at Alares. - Very fair and competitive salary - BCBS health coverage since 2017 - Above and beyond basic vaca/sicktime/PTO time. A++++

Cons

They deal with strictly Federal work and more specifically VA hospitals. They certainly can deliver in that arena, but are hesitant to reach out and compete on typical public/private projects as of course profit margins are slim. Keep in mind this is a veteran based company and with that comes its Pros & Cons like any company in the construction industry.
