Pros

The employees at AkinMears are wonderful people. They are supportive, kind, and have created a work family. Facilities are nice with great parking and 24-hour security. Nice luncheons.

Cons

Employees are micro-managed and constantly "watched over". Managing attorneys demand "daily task emails" in which employees are required to list every work task they completed in a daily email. It is not a learning environment...one mistake and your tasks are reassigned to someone else. The managing attorneys are unprofessional and create a hostile work environment. Don't let the "free" lunches fool you...the costs of drinks, snacks, luncheons are divided equally among all employees and included on your compensation sheet at the end of the year.

Our law firm is a national leader in our area and committed to excellent legal services through compassion, dedication, honesty and accountability. In 2015, our predecessor firm had a client call office that was separate from our legal offices. Persons in the client call office, such as this commentator, would not handle the legal matters in the main office. We have since closed the client call office and, to date, all of the firm has been centralized to the legal offices. Sorry you had negative feelings about our law offices. As a law firm, we have ethical restrictions on what the attorneys and employees can or cannot do or say. In addition to the attorneys in the firm, we retain two legal ethicists (one a legal ethics professor) to ensure all activities are sound. We would not want any of our employees to do something not legally approved. Some level of legal management is required and, for our clients' sake, we would always want to be informed of sub-par performance. Thank you again for your comments.

Pros

Treated with respect and my opinions felt valued. Open door policy with the partners and they are always looking to make their firm better. Their office is beautiful with a fantastic view of the city.

Cons

Sometimes parking in the garage can be a bit clustered

Pros

Everybody at AkinMears really cares for their clients, from the receptionist to the staff to the attorneys. Client care is stressed from day one and regularly discussed with all employees. There is room for growth and training; most of the managers started as receptionists or legal assistants and were promoted by hard work and ability. The attorneys are very ethical and the firm retains two ethicists, one of which is a legal ethics professor. Management meets regularly with staff, and all employees sit down regularly for a firm wide meeting for training, tips and best practices. Health care benefits are excellent, and the firm pays for one of the best packages available on the market. The firm has paid time off and a 401k program too. I thought it was nice that the firm bonused staffers after hurricane Harvey hit to help pay bills. Staff are encouraged to seek a work/life balance. Some former in-house staffers moved due to family and now work remotely, which is great. Some employees prefer to come in early or late, and the firm accommodates them.

Cons

The firm is not able to help all potential clients that call in, and it is really upsetting when somebody wants our assistance and we are not able to assist. Communication is good, and can always be better. The firm encourages staff to communicate problems, issues and "red flags" to their managers and the attorneys. More vacation time would always be appreciated!
